Texas License to Carry for Military Service Members
If you are Active Military here is how the Texas License to Carry – Texas Concealed Carry works:
- You must complete an online or in-person class (Ours is Online and $40)
- You will have to submit documentation you are Active Duty, and latest range card
- Range is waived (Have to show you did a range qualification within last 10 years rifle or handgun)
- Texas has a $0 License fee for Active Military
- So, costs for Active Military
- License Fee: $0
- Our Online Class $40
- Fingerprint Fee through DPS Indigo $10
Total Cost for Active Military $50 plus the cost of gas to do Fingerprints.
If you are a Veteran here is how the Texas License to Carry – Texas Concealed Carry works:
- You must complete an online or in-person class (Ours is Online and $40)
- You will have to submit documentation you are Veteran, and latest range card within 10 years.
- Range is waived if did a range qualification within the last 10 years rifle or handgun.
- Texas has a $25 License fee for Veterans.
- So, costs for Veterans (Honorably Discharged)
- License Fee: $25
- Our Online Class $40
- Fingerprint Fee through DPS Indigo $10
- If you don’t have a range Qual. Within last 10 years of applying you will have to find a local range to do familiarization (most ranges, do it on the weekend, takes about an hour, all students I have talked has said range cost between $10-$25, depends on range)
Total Cost for Veterans $75 plus the cost of gas to do Fingerprints. If range is waived.
Active duty military, veterans, and their family members who are looking to get a Texas LTC can take an online LTC class.
No range required for Active Duty Military & Veterans Texas LTC
Active Duty Military servicemen and servicewomen with ANY military passing range card will not be required, under Texas State law, to perform the range proficiency portion of the Texas license to carry course.
Exempt From the Shooting Portion
All they need is either range scores OR any proof of firearms familiarization training dated within the past 10 years. This can be on a rifle (long gun) or a handgun, it does not matter.
They will ONLY need an online course to obtain their Texas license to carry. Texas Military Forces (Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard) are also qualified for this same exemption.
Veterans with ANY passing military range card proceeding 10 years are also exempt from the range proficiency portion of the Texas license to carry course.
Note: Military range card does NOT have to be a handgun qualification.
For Military & Veterans, Texas LTC is the BEST carry permit to get for several reasons.
- New legislation allows active members of the military that are at least 18 years of age to apply for a Texas LTC License.
- No matter where you transfer to, you can always just renew your Texas LTC online every 5 years from literally anywhere.
- The Texas LTC allows you to carry in more states than any other license in the United States.
- The state license fee (paid to DPS) is \$0 for active-duty military and only \$25 for veterans.
- You are exempt from the shooting portion; all you need is this online class.
Military & Veterans Texas Online LTC
Online Texas LTC class works on all devices including your smart phone. You can take it at your own pace 24/7, when and where ever you want.
Once you complete their online course; you are going to submit a copy of their weapons qualifications which you do in the military.
No matter what it is, it doesn’t have to be pistols. It can be whatever you qualify in and then they submit it to the state of Texas. And the state of Texas is going to issue your license.
The same thing accounts to veterans and any kind of reserve National Guard or active guard or reserve guards. If you have a weapons card then you do not have to do the proficiency pistol qualification. It is that simple. We tell you this again you’re not only going to like it but you are going to love it.
